Apple isn't all that strikingly inventive, companies have been making touch screen candybar phones for a very long time. Apple was not the first, and they weren't really the first to retail-ize the smartphone either. Shoot, they weren't the first to make a dockable smartphone by far. XD
They weren't the first to USB either: All sorts of machines (Compaqs, Sonys, and Packard Bells come to mind) had USB ports before the iMac came to be.
I dunno, I can think of a lot of things that Apple wasn't the first to do, however it's definitely hard NOT to agree that some companies copy Apple to dubious extents.

The Apple ecosystem is no more open or closed then any other system, Apple, Android, Rim, Windows etc.
Apple has by far the most restrictive ecosystem. You can't even load applications that are not approved by Apple.

The idea of having a slider for changing tabs, having the active tab lighter in color than darker, reminds me of the interface of my LED Machines app

In a perfect world it would figure out your specs and use what it can.

The guts of the Image Units are written in a subset of OpenGL Shading Langage and run on either the GPU or CPU as is appropriate for the hardware. But I don't know the gradularity. I think it is on a per Image Unit basis. So (say) "Gamma Adjust" might run on the GPU while "Perspective Transform" might run on a CPU. Where it runs is different dependiig on what hardware you have. Tiger's Core Image has about 100 Image Units and there is a way for programmers to add more. It is reasonable to asume that Aprture adds some of it's own.

I swear guys: I'm pretty sure most of the people dropping calls are only dropping calls because of the proximity sensor issues.
Next time you drop a call, check to see if it says "Call Failure" on the screen. If it doesn't, it's probably the sensor. (I'm talking to a wall, I'm sure�but if one person discovers the real problem, I'll be happy�
If it does say call failure, take it to Apple and they'll give you a new one. Simple. (:

The TV Shows section started out with 5 shows (zero here) and now look at it, there are hundreds of TV Shows for download on iTunes (zero here).
It just takes a few to get it going and once some momentum is established it just keeps picking up speed.

One thing I think people need to keep in mind about the MB Air... it's NOT a replacement laptop or a replacement workstation!
Stop looking for the big power and flexibility! It's a product designed for the road warrior. Someone that is always on the road and needs a light but functional laptop will find the Air useful and not a bad value compared to others on the market in the category.
People should look at the MB Air as a technology demonstration of whats possible and what will come in the future to more laptops... I'm guessing the next MB's and MB Pros are going to be thinner and have solid state drives as an option.
All I'm saying is keep it in perspective... the MB Air is NOT FOR EVERYONE!
I'm not the target market for the MBA, and I suspect most of us on MR aren't either. We like our Macs for more 'technical' reasons. So while I can appreciate the technology and looks of an MBA, I would never buy one for myself - it doesn't do what I need it to do. However.... My wife, who is a road warrior, is starting to sound intrigued specifically because it had "less". Less size, Less weight. Less energy consumption (longer battery life).
Harddrive specs? She uses not quite half of her existing 80gigs. CPU specs - Does it run Word? Safari? MSN Messenger? Optical Drive? I'm the only one who uses it (I'm her IT dept). Firewire? Same as the optical drive.
She sees her MBP as a tool with which to research, and to write, and to play the occasional song while researching and writing. And solitaire. She is also a missing demographic in Apple's market. Look at the airport lounges full of Mac users. The majority are men and likely in a media or tech field. Not all, but a majority.
For my wife (and others like her) the specs that matter to her are weight - she travels with carry-on luggage only - even for 1 or 2 week trips. Size - she is not a lumberjack - that 1 kg savings over her MBP is *huge*. Does it run the non-media centric apps that are her livelihood? Yes.
The deal breaker for her was the ethernet port. Still is if she can't use it and a USB memory stick simultaneously. Maybe I'll get her current MBP in a year when Apple puts out Rev B of the MBA....

Other things, like hours worked and days off, will be non-negotiable as well. And while the union is still free to negotiate wages, the single real bargaining tool they have -- striking -- would now be a jailable offense. So they really have no power to negotiate wages either. Everything will essentially be "take it or leave it."
I agree, this is going to swing the state back to the Democrats in 2012. And yes, unless this is defeated in the courts or by a ballot initiative, anybody who wants to be a teacher or a cop or whatever will look elsewhere, outside of Ohio.
This is going to be terrible for our economy.

The "Health" angle is murky, but TSA uses opt-out ratios as proof of acceptance. They've put out multiple press releases pushing >2% opt out rates as proof that people feel safer and don't mind the new security measures. So, I'm going to opt out every time, if for no other reason than to drive up the cost for them.

I consider your post to spot on! I'm a Mac owner, but I must confess that I find most of my PC-owning friends to be refreshingly free of the type of smug, sycophantic, elitism some Mac people can't help but exhibit. Many PC owners I know wouldn't even recognize Steve Jobs, Steve Ballmer, etc. if they were introduced to them in the street.
Their sole concern is with having the best computer they can get for their individual needs, the software they can run, etc., not hero worship. Period. Some of them rate Macs quite highly. However, their view tends to be that, unless they're able to afford pro models, they're somewhat compelled to buy PCs because of graphical deficiencies in most consumer Macs.
Steve Jobs has achieved many great things & for that he surely deserves considerable respect. Some may consider him to be a genius. But if he's a genius, surely, like many other so-called geniuses, it's very likely that he's a flawed one. I don't mean flawed personally; after all, how would I know without knowing him? I mean it in the sense that the direction that he appears to be taking Apple in isn't, IMO (& that of many others), necessarily the best one.
That's just an opinion. I think that those who think that SJ & Apple are beyond criticism merely confirm the excellent points you've raised in your post.

The fact is, of the 50-100 Mac users I know, I only know one other person who reads these boards. The majority are just owner/users who love their machines. If I were to pick a group of smug zealots around here, it would be the the Apple bashers.

Seems to be a strong update, unlike SL. SL was more a plumbing change for many things (IMO) and Lion will be making strong use of those changes. For that reason, that's why I believe it'll cost around 100 bucks.
I actually think Apple is going to surprise us with the price. Like they did with Final Cut Pro X.
Who knows? Maybe it'll be 29$ upgrade from SL.

Why is there multiple vanishing points!?! I believe it is a fake.
The whole image looks wrong to me too. When I saw it my first split-second reaction was 'That's a Badly Photoshopped Image'. I still think it is. The proportions feel wrong and the screen doesn't look natural.
