Very sorry to hear your case. Based on what you said, no one in other cars were disabled or had life threatening injuries. So it is unlikely that the Judge would grant that much money from the Insurance company or you.
You can always file for bankruptcy if worst situation comes. There is no shame in it in such circumstances.

Called NSC on 9/3 and IO initiated an inquiry. Not sure if this is equivalent to SR. With in few hours I got a reply email stating the exact following message. It says awaiting review by an officer, but then the last line says "Service is waiting for VISA availability". It's too confusing and it sucks.

For that matter nothing is an achievement. if Some one gets a baby everyone greets him. Is that an achievement? If you buy a house you are happy. Is that an achievement? For some people coming to US was an achievement. Some people think getting a green card. We see all congratulation message when someone get his GC.
So Please be broad minded. It may be nothing for you. But for some people it is an achievement. People like me are happy by achieving small things. This may nothing for you But it is good reason for the celebration for the people like us.

Ultimately, whatever IV is able to accomplish will benefit the entire legal immigrant community, regardless of contributions/memberships. However, the need of the hour is to realize the opportunities we are missing because of lack of resources and hands in most cases.

I dont think theres any doubt in the value iv is providing - selling it is the issue. I can be proved wrong in a month but the ongoing funding drive is kind of a ray of hope that people will be willing to give both time & money to help themselves and others.

I would strongly suggest everyone to acquaint himself/herself with the legislative process and how a bill moves through different phases / steps before it becomes a law. You can find many postings documenting the process.
Right now it is just introduced in the senate. The problem for us is that Sen Durbin is Democratic Whip (i.e. Assistant Majority Leader) which gives him tremendous influence over garnering votes and referring which legislation to consider to the Majority Leader (Harry Reid in the Senate). Ultimately Reid decides which legislation get priority consideration. The fact that Grassley is a Republican and is close to the Minority Leader (I think) does not help us either. We will monitor the progress of the bill.

Kyl, however, speaking yesterday to nationally syndicated radio host Laura Ingraham, said he was uncertain whether or not Republicans would have the 40 votes necessary to block the legislation.
"I would certainly hope that the majority of Republicans in the Senate would not be complicit in passing legislation that is not wise, that for example, would put everybody on a path to citizenship and say that temporary workers get to get U.S. citizenship, and so on," Kyl said, according to HotAir.com
In January, Democrats will have a 51-49 majority over Republicans in the Senate. A supermajority of 61 votes would be needed to prevent a filibuster.
"I would certainly hope that we would have the 40 votes to be able to stop [the legislation], but, I don't know, we're going to have to wait and see; it'll be very close," said Kyl, who won re-election to another six-year term last week.
Arguing for the guest-worker program, the Bush administration has insisted it's not practical to deport the millions of foreigners who are in the country illegally.
"The cost of identifying all of those people and sending them back would be stupendous. It would be billions and billions of dollars," Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff said in an interview last year.
"One of the reasons I think that we've been focusing on the idea of a temporary worker program as part of a larger strategy for border security is because it would be a way to siphon off people who really want to do nothing more than work here, put them into a regulated program � we would know who they are � we would then be able to send them back at the end of a period of three years or six years," he told Sean Hannity on the Fox News Channel program "Hannity & Colmes."
"They would have made some money, they could take it back home, and then we could focus our other resources on the people that don't want to do it the right way, and we could get those people sent out."
Last May, just 36 senators � three of them Democrats � voted against a bill that included a guest-worker program. The company I work in is a medium sized business organization. My boss is a staunch republican. I hope to make him aware of these 2 bills and request him to write to the locol congressman and the senator. If we can all do the same then we can buil substantial momentum towards getting these 2 bills passed. Since most of the businesses have republican leanings and at some time have contributed towards the GOP in some way, their endorsements can have a major impact.

I understand where you are coming from. And I am sorry that some of my recent posts were irresponsible.
Frankly, after mumbai attack I have been a different person. I come to this forum to learn and provide any information I can provide. But it bothers me to see few jerks like mirage who don't have any clue of how things work, and they just start posting on the forum "remove country limits, remove country limits, remove country limits, remove country limits, remove country limits, remove country limits, remove country limits" 30 times a day, as if that will be sufficient to remove country limits. And in more ways this uneducated style bothers me. I will try to ignore it and go my way.
I am right now going to speed dial that other side of me, good and informative side.

I don't know why but we tend to be satisfied with lsmall benefits...
I agree with you "something (EAD and AP) is better than nothing"
But i bet you ..you will find your self in the same situation of agony and endless waiting for the final Green card.
I bet most of the people don't use your ead and AP as it puts you in a gray "Adjustment of status". They are good to have though. But you will see...how painful it is to decide to use them or not..
What i want to say is that being able to apply for EAD and AP is not the end of the battle..you will be stuck in a depressing situation waiting for the final green card.How do i know? .. I went through it...waiting for GC for the past 4 years.
I dont know its FBI or its just the USCIS incompetence but waiting in the final stage is horrible. Every time you travel you are scared...AP as for as my lawyer goes IT does not guarantee 100% entry in to the country.
After you apply for AP its only 1 year H1 increments.
What i am saying why dont we try for the overall improvement of the GC processing. Why dont we be firm about not wasting the GC numbers and recapturing the unused numbers.

Speakers urged the audience, many of whom are undocumented immigrants, to call their elected officials in support of the Kennedy-McCain immigration reform bill. Currently before the Senate, the measure would allow undocumented immigrants to remain in the United States and earn a chance to apply for permanent residency. An alternative bill that already passed the House of Representatives would turn the country�s 11 million undocumented immigrants into criminals, subject to arrest by local authorities. �If you are an undocumented immigrant in the United States, at the moment you have two choices: You can either stay put and hide, or you can lose everything you have,� said Kelly Fincham, executive directors of the newly formed Irish Lobby for Immigration Reform, which organized the meeting at St. Mary�s Help of Christians Catholic Church. Fincham urged those in attendance, even ones who cannot vote, to call or e-mail their U.S. senators and representatives and ask them to vote for the Kennedy-McCain bill. �Do you really want your future to be decided behind closed doors in Washington, or do you want to have a voice?� she asked. An early indicator of the success of her group, formed in December, was the attendance of U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer, who received a standing ovation after addressing the Friday meeting. �If we were to cut off immigration in this country within two, three or four generations, we would become a tired, stagnant, stratified society,� he said. New York �is a special place because of immigration and the worst we could do is close the door,� he added. Other speakers at the meeting urged audience members to sign up and bring their friends to a March 8 bus trip to lobby Congress in Washington, D.C. Groups from cities such as Boston will also be bused in. �This is about living a normal life without fear so you can go and enjoy life in the greatest country on earth,� said Naill O�Doud, chairman of the Irish Lobby for Immigration Reform. Congress is expected to pass sweeping immigration reform legislation later this year affecting America�s estimated 11 million undocumented immigrants, of whom around 40,000 are Irish. One version, which already passed the House of Representatives, is an �enforcement only� bill sponsored by Representatives James Sensenbrenner (R-Wis.) and Peter King (R-N.Y.). Known as the Border Protection, Antiterrorism, and Illegal Immigration Control Act, the measure makes it harder for legal permanent residents to become U.S. citizens by allowing government officials to deny naturalization applications based on subjective information or secret evidence. The measure intensifies sanctions against employers who hire undocumented immigrants and requires them to confirm the authenticity of their workers� Social Security numbers. It gives local police the power to enforce immigration laws and penalizes states and cities that protect confidentiality of immigrant crime victims and witnesses. Other provisions would make drunken driving a deportable offense and mandate the construction of five double-layer border fences at a cost of $3.2 million per mile. July bulletin is OUT and NO more significant movement. Donot hope for future bulletin . Please call Lawmakers ASAP. Unless we take action USCIS is not going to do anything. Situation can be worse once we head towards election season. Still we have 1-2 months to get things done or we will be waiting for years to get green card OR EAD ( For some folks ).
It is just 10-15 minutes need to spend to call. Let them know WHO WE ARE AND WHAT ARE OUR ISSUES .
I request all of you to call , if you have called then ask your friends and family members to call.
Now its time to act. If we dont take action CHC will not allow to move ahead our 3 bills.

What you are seeing right now in US, you'll see that in India begining next year. Indian Property market is ripe for a crash. I wouldn't invest a penny until the dust settles...
You have to understand how the market in India operates versus how it is run in developed countries especially in USA. I don't know if you noticed, but all the property transactions are conducted on credit in USA with minimum persnal contribution ( i.e. down payement). And now in hindsight, we all can understand how this practise was reason for bubble-brust. As an interested home-owner looking for houses currently, I have first hand experience. I say that beacuse people out-bidding me, even in todays market conditions, are putting down zero amount in down payment and in-turn even financing closing costs. So when you have minimal of personal equity at stake, it bothers you least to take risks on other peoples ( say banks) money.
Now lets go to India, and I will stick to North-India, as that's where I have first hand expereience from. Go and talk to any property dealer and enquiry about properties. Wait for few weeks and return to find the rates have gone up. Well lets assume, you agreed upon the sale price and are now ready to conduct transaction. The property dealer is not going to ask you for SS number to check credit wortheness, but rather will ask for cash amount. You pay cash, you have the papers else don't waste time. So with business model, their is little risk involved and hence property business in North-India remains sizzling hot.
If you can afford you must buy piece of land in North India. ALthough maintaining it always remains challange as their are no laws protecting you from Rich-Police-Politician gangs.
